FAVES joins the Upcycled Food Association (UFA)

One major thing that sets us apart from any other healthy candy on the market is how we source our ingredients. We use imperfect produce that would otherwise be wasted. This allows us to reduce food waste by making a candy that is just as good for you as it is for the planet! There are more and more people turning to upcycled foods these days as the climate crisis continues to demand attention. This need for human kind to source goods sustainably exactly how the Upcycled Food Association (UFA) came to be.

We are a proud member of the UFA. It is a nonprofit organization that is trying to help the Earth by improving the upcycled food economy in the US. This organization is relatively new to the world. In June 2020, the UFA officially defined what it takes to be considered "upcycled." This was a monumental event for companies everywhere working hard to do their part to aid in the climate crisis. Heres the gist of an upcycled food...

An upcycled food is…

We are proudly able to call our healthy candy, FAVES, an upcycled food! All of our ingredients are sourced from local farms. We take the imperfect produce that would be wasted due to inefficiency and grocery store cosmetic standards, and instead we repurpose it for our tasty wafers.

In addition to the use of imperfect produce, we also take great consideration with how our entire supply chain impacts the world around us. Our supply chain minimizes waste and energy usage at every stage from farm to fork. This is how we have a positive impact on the environment, by reducing waste and providing nutrition in a convenient and enjoyable way.

The work being done by the UFA to bring together groups that produce upcycled foods is going to make a great impact on our world. With food waste contributing to greenhouse gas emissions (with food waste in the US being responsible for 7% of global emissions alone) it is crucial for us to find new ways of working as a society. The UFA continues to expand and with this we are seeing an increase in sustainable and waste-reducing products on the market. We are proud to be a part of the UFA and encourage you to seek out upcycled food products the next time you are in your local supermarket. Your purchase is helping to save the world!
